Hi Writer friends!
I’ve been on holiday mode lately. Me and my husband have been taking more breaks because its closer to my time to fly back to Medan, Indonesia for studies. I’ve been a little upset lately because we’re newly married and will be embarking on a Long Distance Relationship so soon!
Putting that aside, lets recap on what I’ve achieved this month, I wrote 12 articles (It surprises me to think how much I’ve worked), 5 short posts and created a page where I index my biography and articles according to topics.
Aside from writing, I created a Buy me a coffee page and also made an account here on substack in hope that I can one day start an email list. To date, I have one subscriber! (Thank you). I’m still figuring out what a newsletter is, my apologies and know that I appreciate my early subscriber’s patience and understanding who receive less than quality updates from me. We’re learning together here :)
Here’s 5 lesson I learnt this month
Create a biography page and an index list to your articles on Medium.
Putting in behind the pay wall creates income (even if its a few cents) and you could observe what indexes people frequently open to read. I receive no traffic on my articles on relationships. And do better with articles about spirituality and religion. Helps you gauge what niche to dive into or which part of your writing to improve on.
Short story posts are like tweets, but better.
Because you get paid! I made 3 cents from a few of them. And its easier to get a response and start a conversation with your audience.
Its better to invest your articles on smaller publications
Because there’s a smaller flood of stories everyday, your articles get reads and responses. Its hard to come on top in big publications when you are still figuring out how to write great headlines and good content as a beginner.
In order to create content, you have to read content.
Utilize the tag tools and embed links to stories from other authors you found that helps to propagate your message. (If you’re lucky, maybe those authors will write a reply!) Since we are only starting out, I’m sure we don’t have much to say. So it’s easier to share contents that resonate with us instead of struggling to come up with a new one.
You need to invest time in creating a writing routine.
The more time I spend on Medium, the more I realize that showing up for my work is important. Develop a routine, write and publish frequently. You’ll be amazed at how much you get to learn and how you improve over time. There are no shortcuts!
This month, I made $2.56!
My best performing article earned me $0.55
That’s all for February friends! I hope to update you with more progress over time. I do with to hear about your progress too :)
